The Manitoba Moose put the St. John's Maple Leafs in a deep hole and never let them climb out.
Ryan Kesler, Jeff Heerema, Jimmy Roy and Josh Green scored in the first 13 minutes and Manitoba cruised to a 5-2 victory Monday night that gave them a 2-1 edge in the first-round AHL playoff series.
Brad Leeb and Jason MacDonald scored for St. John's.
