The Colorado Avalanche stormed out to an early lead then weathered a string of third-period penalties for a 5-3 victory Thursday night that snapped the Vancouver Canucks seven-game home unbeaten streak. Karlis Skrastins scored a shorthanded goal midway through the third period to ensure the victory.
