Sources in Detroit suggest Babcock has agreed to terms with the Red Wings on a new multi-year contract, but that no formal announcement is expected until some time next week.
The Red Wings apparently are not keen on making a major announcement in or around the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, being played in Detroit Tuesday.
Babcock was offered a one-year contract extension with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, but declined the offer to pursue other opportunities. At the same time, the Red Wings were telling their head coach Dave Lewis that he would not have his contract renewed.
Sources suggested that Babcock was not only talking to the Red Wings, but another NHL club. It now appeears, though, the Red Wings and Babcock have agreed to terms and all that remains is for the announcement to be made official some time next week.
