Bruins after Zhamnov...and more rumors

While a deal is not done, sources tell Sportsnet free agent centre Alexei Zhamnov will soon become a member of the Boston Bruins.
It is believed Boston stepped up its push to sign the veteran forward when Mike Modano ended the saga in Dallas and agreed to a five-year, $17.5-million deal to stay with the Stars.Sources say, Zhamnov was offered a three-year contract at just over $12-million as early as Wednesday.Zhamnov has been a model of consistency throughout the years, scoring more than 60 points seven times between 1992 and 2002. Before joining the Blackhawks in 1996, Zhamnov dished out career highs in points (72) and assists (47) during his rookie year (1992-93) in Winnipeg. His helpers aided Teemu Selanne to a 132-point season. In 1994-95 he earned the first Lady Byng nomination by a Russian player.

Elsewhere, The Fan590 reports that Niedermayer is in Anaheim, and Chicago looking to land Khabibulin. A team to watch out for are the Rangers. I think Kariya and Selanne would be an excellent package deal. They should sign these two to play along side with Nylander. Along with Rucinsky, Straka, and Jagr this would make two solid lines. Unfortunately though, they have nothing for the third and fourth lines. Atmost, they should be at 1.5 - 2.5 million at most, with Selanne being the cheaper of the two.
