Modano rejects Stars offer, Schnieder re-signs with Wings

In a press release sent out Wednesday, Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced that center Mike Modano has rejected the contract offer that was extended to him Tuesday afternoon and has informed the Stars that he would like to continue to talk with other NHL clubs.The Stars' offer to Modano was for five years."It's just far too much of a hometown discount," Brian Lawton, Modano's Minnesota-based agent told the Dallas Morning News. "Mike knew there was going to be a difference between offers, but not as much as $9 million, and that's what it could turn out to be."In other news, Sportsnet has learned 36-year-old veteran defenseman Mathieu Schneider is heading back to the Detroit Red Wings.Schneider, returns to the Red Wings with a two-year contract.
